SRAM: Scalable and Reliable ATM Multicast Employing RM Cell Consolidation

In this letter, we present a new ATM scalable multicast algorithm called SRAM that can provide reliable data transfer services. This algorithm employs the RM cell consolidation mechanism for ABR point-to-multipoint connections which resolves the feedback implosion problem without increasing the number of connections according to the number of receivers. We compare the proposed scheme with other reliable multicast schemes through numerical analysis under reasonable assumptions. Introduction: Most reliable multicast protocols rely on the retransmission mechanism which requires receivers' feedback on data reception status, and thus suuer from the feedback implosion problem due to the multitude of receivers. In order to alleviate this problem, it is essential to employ some means that can minimize the number of feedback messages directed toward the sender.
